Celebrating innovation: The Times nominated for newsroom development award

Following the successful launch of its new publishing ecosystem – underpinned by a headless WordPress CMS developed by Big Bite – The Times has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.

In recognition of a remarkable digital transformation journey, The Times and The Sunday Times have been named as potential winners of the newsroom development category in the 2024 INMA Global Media Awards. Organised by the International News Media Association, which brings together members from over 1,000 media organisations in 94 countries, the awards recognise industry excellence, with entries judged on breakthrough results, unique concepts, strong creativity, and winning synergies across platforms.

Underscoring The Times’s commitment to innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of online publishing, the shortlisting is also a huge boost for the Big Bite team after we collaborated closely with its product teams to deliver a game-changing CMS. By working together on an ambitious initiative to revolutionise the long-standing title’s digital infrastructure, we’ve enhanced agility, efficiency, and reader engagement, which has delivered tremendous results. As well as enabling The Times’s editorial departments to publish content 34% faster than ever before, the average user onboarding has been reduced to just 30 minutes, and its teams have access to a much richer suite of functionality that’s consistent with other publications under the News Corp umbrella.

This accolade is proof that forging strong partnerships and close collaboration delivers both results and international recognition.

Luke Sikkema, Head of Editorial Operations at The Times

Speaking on the award announcement, Luke Sikkema, Head of Editorial Operations at The Times, said: “Forget the Oscars – it’s all about the INMAs! So pleased and personally very proud to see our deserving titles have been nominated for ‘Best Innovation in Newsroom Transformation.’ I often quote the adage ‘if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together’ – this accolade is proof that forging strong partnerships and close collaboration delivers both results and international recognition.”

The winners will be announced at London’s prestigious V&A museum – another valued Big Bite client – at the end of April. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
