Big Bite CTO, Jason Agnew, shares some wisdom in the latest episode of the Future of Media Explained podcast: How to avoid the CMS snake-oil salesman.

Produced by Press Gazette, which has covered the world of news media since 1965, the podcast episode focuses on the CMS build vs buy debate for publishers, and offers advice on how to avoid costly mistakes. Investing in a CMS is often the single biggest spend that a digital title will ever make, however as there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, Jason offers expert advice and guidance to help organisations make the right decision. He also shares why Big Bite opted to become WordPress specialists back when the company was first set up in 2011, and explains the publishing pitfalls of internal politics and vendor lock for enterprise businesses.

The episode also features excerpts from panellists at the recent Future of Media Technology conference – including Hello! CTO Andrew Macharg and Larry Chevres, VP of Software Engineering at CNN – as well as input from Sanjay Ravindran, CIO of the New Statesman Media Group. Although the organisations have all taken a different path to digital publishing, each approach offers varied benefits that best suit their requirements.

“The most important thing to understand is that not everyone starts at the same place – not every solution works for everyone” explains Jason.
