Out and about: WordCamp US and Big WP

We’re a sociable bunch here at Big Bite – here’s a roundup of the events we’ll be taking part in over the next few weeks.

December is going to be a busy month, with us visiting WordCamp US in Nashville and then heading straight to London to present at Big WP, hosted by Twitter UK. We’re also proud to support and sponsor Frontend NE, a monthly meetup for frontend developers based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

WordCamp US

We will be heading to WordCamp US, the third annual conference which attracts over 2000 developers, editors, contributors and agency owners from across the world. This year Nashville, Tennessee, will be the host city for the event in the Nashville Music Centre.

Our team will be there meeting clients and partners, enjoying the schedule of speakers and taking in some of the music culture that downtown Nashville has to offer.

Be sure to get in touch if you are around, and hope to see you all at the Adventure Science Center for the afterparty!

If you haven’t already signed up there are still tickets available.

Big WP

We will be heading to the Twitter HQ to present at Big WP. We previously presented in January at News UK when we discussed the ongoing work that we were doing in collaboration with Metro UK, including the development of a suite of React Native apps.

If you’re not already familiar with Big WP London, it’s a gathering of some of the most interesting people working with WordPress at enterprise scale. That means big names, big brands, and a look behind the scenes at some of the highest traffic and highest profile WordPress sites on the web and it promises presentations by Automattic and CapGemini.

We’ll be discussing the work we have been doing around Automattic’s Liveblog plugin. We’ll cover how Liveblog V2 gets around some of the performance bottlenecks of the original and how using React, Redux & RxJS Observables simplifies the overall build.

So join us after work on Thursday 7th December to share some food, drink, and interesting discussion about what the future holds for WordPress and the web.

You can request a place for Big WP here.

Frontend NE

We are also proud to be the new drinks sponsor for Frontend NE, a monthly meetup for Frontend developers based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Their next event is on the 7th December at the Mining Institute.

Nikos Tsouknidas and Joe Hart from the BBC’s GEL (Global Experience Language) team will be presenting about how the BBC is reinventing itself into a culture of embracing constant change and how they’re helping open the silos between teams. Their talk is fittingly entitled ‘Opening Silos in Big Brilliant Corporations’!

Tickets are up for grabs here at 11am on the 30th of November so be sure to head along and enjoy a beer on us 🍺
